Day 10

This class period we finished off our first project, the design crests, had some more practice using power tools. We then finished with an introduction to the second project of the semester.

To start, the last of us finished off our second and final draft of our personality crest projects. Various errors in our designs and settings led our printing process to not work entirely, so we all placed our designs on a document for Mr. Neale to fix up and print for us.

We also had more practice using some of the various machine tools around the class, including a scroll saw, drill press, oven, precision plastic heater, and other hand tools.

Then Mr. Neale called us back to our seats, where we downloaded fusion 360, a software program we will be using throughout the semester.

While the software downloaded, we watched a video on the Centriphone, an invention by Nicolas Vuignier that allows a regular iPhone to be spun around you to create a bullet time effect.

The Centriphone's design process was shown to us as an example that no design is perfect on the first try. Constant edits and prototypes are made over an expanse of time until we reach a final product. Every creation has a process cycle, as seen below.

This video led us to our second project of the semester; Amped. We are to use at least 2 materials and the tools in class to create a personalized passive amplifier, that increases the volume of a phone speaker by at least 10 decibels. We updated our portfolios to keep track of this project, putting in many slides on the topics we will be assessed on.
Here is the list of slides to make
